Week 66; February 9, 2015: Progression

Tuesday was a really cool day. So there is a Recent-Convert in Seville Groves ward. We’ve visited with him several times and have taught him and his family a few lessons and he’s just a really great guy. It would be hard to believe that he has only been a member for a year. But Tuesday night was when he went through the Temple for his own endowments and he really wanted us to be there. So we got permission from President and got to go there. And it was a really neat experience seeing someone go through the Temple for the first time. And it was great to see the support of the ward. In the Celestial Room, there was practically a line of people waiting to run up and give him a hug to congratulate him. He felt really loved, which was good, and the spirit that emanated from the room was great.

Wednesday at 3:00 PM, we had another lesson with Liz. This time we had a different family come with us to the lesson so she could get more fellowship and meet more people from the ward. And it was really good. The Nicholl’s and her really hit it off and made some connections, which was cool. We finished teaching the Plan of Salvation from the Spirit World to the Resurrection and Judgment and to the Three Degrees of Glory. And we emphasized the Celestial kingdom and how that is where we want to go and we asked her, “What do you think you can do in order to reach the Celestial Kingdom?” And she responded with following Christ, praying, reading scriptures, and coming to church. And so we asked her if she felt these things were true and that this is the true church and she said yes. And then we asked what her thoughts are on Baptism and she said she feels strongly that she needs to do it. So we talked about coming to church and what her work schedule is looking like and it seems to be getting more crazy. Another employee left and so now work is even more loaded because they still haven’t gotten the workers they’d like. And so we talked about how when God commands us to do something, he is going to provide a way to accomplish it. We reviewed how we already established that God is our Loving Heavenly Father and loves all of His children and wants ALL of them to return to him and likened it unto her and said specifically that God wants her and her family in the Celestial Kingdom. And if coming to church is a requirement for Baptism, then God is going to do everything to make sure that we can get to church if we truly have that desire and if we but just ask. Ask and ye shall receive. We asked how her prayers are going and she said they could be a little better. And so we gave her a specific commitment to pray every single day and to pray specifically that she will know what to do so that she can attend church – and then be ready and willing to act upon whatever prompting we receive.

We then extended a Baptismal date for March 7th. She was doubtful and said, “How about April? I just don’t think it’ll be able to happen until then?” And Elder Anderson and I have talked about this several times how she needs to be put On Date. And so I told her that both Elder Anderson and I have prayed about this and feel that she can be ready by then and then explained that a lot of what setting this Baptismal date is- is that it gives us a goal to reach towards. Even if it is not the most realistic goal, it is putting forth our faith in God that we trust in him and that all things are possible unto him. So by setting that date, we are putting forth the faith in God that she will be able to attend church and be fully prepared for Baptism by that date. And finally she accepted the date. So we are really hoping and praying that this happens.

Thursday was our zone’s day to attend the Temple. So we woke up bright and early at 5:30 AM in order to get to the 7:00 AM session. But it was good. It was cool that we got to go to the Temple twice this week. We went to Kneader’s right after to get some unlimited French toast. Elder Anderson and Elder Thomson were going at it against each other. Elder Thomson only got seven and Elder Anderson beat his last record (which was eight) by eating nine. They were pretty miserable the rest of the day.

We could potentially be teaching a part-member family, but we’re not sure yet. There’s a less-active family that is trying to become active again and they have a 12-year old son who wants to become a Deacon and get the Priesthood and Bishop asked him to take the Missionary lessons beforehand (he’s already Baptized, it’s just because they were inactive for a while so it’s more of a refresher) and his step-dad isn’t a member. So we have an appointment set up this Thursday and if the dad sits in on the lessons, that’ll be really cool. So we’ll see.

So that’s about it for this week. Hope that everything goes well for all of you! God Bless!

Love,
Elder Foxx
