Week 69; March 2, 2015: Small Steps

So we were finally able to have another lesson with Liz this Wednesday. We taught the lesson on the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End) and had the Nicholl’s with us at the lesson. Work is still crazy for her. They just ANOTHER employee just drop out, so they’re more and more understaffed. And so we continued to commit her to pray for help and for the strength to be able to approach her supervisor and to be bold with the supervisor in getting Sundays off or at least a different schedule for Sunday so that she can attend church. Because the place is becoming more and more understaffed, then logically her value as an employee would increase and could probably be more convincing in getting a schedule change. So we’re still hoping for something to happen there.

On the bright side, there was a Relief Society Activity on Thursday night that Liz was able to attend, so she got to meet loads of members there and from what Sister Nicholl told us, she really had a good time and enjoyed herself. We’re trying to choose a time where we can take the family to the Mesa Temple Visitor’s Center because I really think that would be good for her and for her family.

On that very same evening, we stopped by a part-member family in the Seville Park ward. The father isn’t a member, but the mother is and the two kids are. Their oldest boy just turned 12 and wants to have the Aaronic Priesthood. So Bishop asked that he take the missionary lessons first (the whole family has been inactive for the longest time until about three weeks ago when they randomly showed up at church) just for a refresher. And so we tried setting up a lesson to teach him several weeks ago and the past few appointments have cancelled. But we stopped by Tuesday evening and caught the parents working on the motorcycles in their open garage and started talking to them. And we got to go inside and they actually fed us dinner and so we got to talk a lot and get to know the family better and it was a really good visit and we left setting a regular weekly scheduled apts. to meet with the son. I don’t think the father is yet interested in becoming a member anytime soon, but as we go and teach the son, the dad’s going to be there in the background so he’ll be hearing everything that we are teaching, so hopefully something can come from that.

And those were pretty much the biggest things that have happened this week. Hope that you all have a great week!

Love, Elder Foxx
